What is chargeback, and how does it differ from a standard refund?

A refund is handled directly between merchants (or sellers) and customers (or buyers) when buyers request their money back through your support channels.

A chargeback occurs when a customer bypasses seller entirely and asks their card-issuing bank to reverse the payment.

When a chargeback is filed, the disputed funds are immediately withdrawn from your merchant account, alongside a non-refundable administrative processing fee (or chargeback fee), regardless of whether you ultimately win the dispute.
